Everyday routines are the status quo. If you have the same lunch every day, if you drive the same route home, if you party with the same people all the time, you’re in a rut. Even something as simple as going down a different street might show you something new.

You’re never going to think you’re ready if you keep thinking you’re not ready. Remember when you studied for a test over and over and still thought you weren’t up to it? Then you took the test and aced it. If it were up to us, we would always think we weren’t ready. Sometimes you have just got to do it. Move, and you will find wings that hep you soar like an eagle.

FIVE ROUTINE BUSTING EXERCISES

  1. Every day for one week, use your non-dominant hand to brush your teeth or hold your fork. Switch back and forth every week. It will feel awkward at first, but you will become more skilled as your brain becomes more willing to accept alternates to your usual patterns.
  2. Sit in a different seat each time you attend a meeting, a lecture, a class – or at your own dinner table.
  3. Once a month, buy and read a magazine related to a topic with which you are unfamiliar.
  4. Before you begin a task at work, ask yourself why you do it the way you do it, and is there another way? Try that other way.
  5. If you regularly travel the expressway to and from work, get off one exit sooner than  you normally and and find your way through the surface streets and back roads.
